Janet and Stuart Wilson are freelance writers and photographers, specializing in food, wine and travel. Native Californians with a love of history and architecture, they reside in Sacramento, when not on the road. They have written stories on wine, beer, dining, destinations and journeys set in Europe and North America, especially California. Their work has been published in the San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury-News, and various magazines including RV Journal, MotorHome, Trailer Life, Highways, Sierra Heritage, and Family Motor Coaching. Regular contributors to RV Journal magazine, they write a column about an off-the-beaten-track destination in each issue.
Key to their travel writing and photography success is making editors’ lives easier by providing what an editor needs, when it is needed. They consistently deliver accurate, on-time, publishable articles and photos, researched and tailored for the specific publication. A passion for travel infuses their work and comes through to readers. Many repeat sales attest to editors’ satisfaction.
Both completed the Society of American Travel Writers’ “Travel Writing & Guidebook Institute” in Orlando, Florida, and numerous other courses to further develop their writing and photography skills.
Among their favorite published stories are a piece on the Shenandoah Valley wine region in California’s Sierra foothills, an article on RVing in northern Italy, and three on California’s historic missions. They belong to the Bay Area Travel Writers, North American Travel Journalists Association, and California Writers Club. After six years of part-time writing and photography, they retired from salaried employment in 2002 to devote more time to traveling, photographing and writing about it. With plenty of the world left to explore and lots more to discover in familiar places, they’re not concerned about running out of destinations or stories.
